I'm a fashion designer and these are the shoes I'm buying this season

April 23, 2022

If you ask me- shoes or a bag, I'll choose a pair of shoes in a heartbeat. I don't mind walking around with the same handbag for years (or no handbag at all) but my shoes have one requirement- they have to be stunning.

I've been living in France now for 4 years and I'm taking a cue from a French women's book- a pair of shoes is a great way to follow in on a trend in a subtle way. Trends in shoes change much slower than in clothing (they take a while to develop so brands won't be drastically changing them from season to season) and even if the trends do eventually change, a fabulous pair of shoes is a fabulous pair of shoes!

That said, I'm updating my shoe wardrobe this season, and here's what I'm adding to my collection:

A pair of bubble gum pink suede mules

The moment I saw them, I knew they were mine. They have that '90s vibe and the bubble gum pink reminds me of Chanel catwalks this season, where models carried pink bags with monochrome outfits. There is something very feminine about mules, a certain image harking back to old Hollywood glamour. I'll wear them with a pair of jeans and a grey cashmere jumper from the men's department for a juxtaposition of feminine and masculine.

Ultra glam party sandals

Weddings and social gatherings are back on the agenda and nothing says "lets the party" like a pair of glamorous heels. There are a lot of sparkly choices this season and I went for a Ukrainian brand, Kachorovska. They will be perfectly paired with our Maya dress (launching soon) and a fun clutch. Add a Bellini for a perfect evening!

Flat, lace-up sandals

They are back in fashion with fanfare this season (just see the Valentino campaign with Zandaya), which makes me happy because they are one of my favourites type of sandals. They give summer dresses a certain lightness and carefree feeling. This season I'm going for a pair of Rondinis, which is a bit of a French secret. They are a brand based in St Tropez and each pair is handmade there. They are classic and timeless and worn by countless French celebrities and It girls. Pair them with a mini dress and tanned legs.
